Lauren J. Silver

Lauren J. Silver is Associate Professor of Childhood Studies at Rutgers University in Camden, NJ. Dr. Silver joined the Rutgers-Camden Department of Childhood Studies in 2009 and is also an Affiliate Scholar of the Center for Urban Research and Education. She is a feminist ethnographer whose work lies at the intersection of abolition, queer kinship, and transformative child & youth studies. Her scholarship centers the lives of Black, brown, and queer young people who experience and resist structural violence; it is deeply connected to the urban places where she lives and works. Lauren’s art practice stems from her drive to make freedom accessible to herself and others; she is a mixed-medium assemblage artist who salvages discarded materials.
